New York confirm Will Leonard signing

Rugby United New York have confirmed the signing of Will Leonard from Shannon RFC in Limerick, Ireland, for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old adds to a midfield contingent that includes Eagles Sevens cap Chris Mattina and 2015 World Cup starter Seamus Kelly.

Leonard is known for his abrasive ball carrying and arrives having been nominated for Provincial Player of the Year in Munster during the 2017-18 season. He is a former Munster academy member, turning out for their u20 side until 2015.

New York now feature several players of Irish origin. Dylan Fawsitt, Ross Deacon, Marcus Walsh, and Cathal Marsh all hail from the country while Paddy Ryan grew up there after being born in Chicago. At least two more Irish players are expected to join the club in the coming weeks.
