Rio de Janeiro’s world famous Ipanema beach is to be the setting for an international Beach Rugby tournament on Saturday. The fifth edition of the competition will be played on Saturday from 4pm-6pm and is to be broadcast in Brazil on SporTV 3.
The event will include both men’s and women’s Beach Rugby. Joining Brazil will be Argentina and Uruguay who are to compete in a triangular competition to determine the champions.
Brazil’s women’s team includes leading names. Heading the list is Bianca Silva, with Milena Batista, Leila Silva, Rafaela Zanellato, Isadora Lopes, Silvana Oliveira, Giovanna Olio and Thalia Costa joining her.
Brazil’s men’s roster features Rafael Spago, Kaua Guimaraes, Devon Muller, Gabriel Paganini, Endy Willian, Pedro Bengalo, Cleber Dias, and Rafael Góes.
In the 2017 edition of the Rio Beach Rugby competition Brazil’s women’s side, As Yaras continued their dominance in winning their fourth straight competition. They did so with three wins and a draw.
In the men’s Argentina won the title while Uruguay were the champions in 2016. Brazil finished third in 2017 though did achieve a victory in one of their two meetings against Uruguay.
Saturday’s competition will take place at Praia de Ipanema near Posto 10 in Rio de Janeiro. D
