Experienced Argentina to Take on Ireland

Argentina Head Coach Daniel Hourcade has rolled out his most experienced lineup to face off against Ireland in their Rugby World Cup Quarterfinal match on Sunday at the Millennium Stadium. The group boasts a total of 496 caps between the members of the side making them one of the most experienced teams in the entire tournament. The squad should be well rested as 10 players in the starting lineup did not play in Argentina’s final pool match against Namibia.

After losing their opening match of the World Cup to New Zealand, Argentina rolled off victories over Tonga, Georgia and Namibia to lock in their place in the quarterfinals for the third straight World Cup. After finishing in 3rd place at the 2007 World Cup, Argentina bowed out in the quarterfinals in 2011 with a 33-10 loss to the All Blacks. With New Zealand on the other side of the World Cup bracket, Argentina has an opportunity to set up a rematch against the All Blacks in the finals.

The matchup against Ireland marks the 16th meeting between the two proud rugby nations. Argentina holds and all-time 5-10 record against Ireland and has lost the last five meetings.
