van der Merwe and Glasgow Conquer Cardiff Blues

DTH van der Merwe and the Glasgow Warriors conquered the Cardiff Blues this afternoon. In what was a round two fixture of the Champions Cup the Scottish side downed the Welsh 29-12.

Canada’s DTH van der Merwe scored the second try of the match for the winners. His try came in just the 4th minute, giving the Glasgow Warriors a dominant early lead.

In winning the match the Glasgow Warriors are 1-1 for the Champions Cup this season. They lost at home against Saracens in round one, a round which saw the Cardiff Blues winning in France against Lyon.

Today’s win sees the Glasgow Warriors well placed to push for a place in the play-off’s. Their four remaining matches are against Lyon home-and-away, Cardiff Blues in Scotland and Saracens in England.

The competition will resume in December. Before then van der Merwe will be on vital international duty. He is to join Canada who face Germany, Hong Kong, and Kenya in Marseille. The must-win series is the RWC 2019 Repechage Winner tournament. The winning country will earn the final place in Japan 2019.
