Who is the biggest Name for Jaguars to Recruit for 2019?

Planning is well underway for the next Super Rugby season. Argentina’s side has a new Head Coach and there has been player movement, notably with Nicolás Sánchez leaving for Stade Français. Who then is the biggest Name for Jaguars to Recruit for 2019?

The fly half position is notably weak for 2019. So much so that there are no specialists who received regular game time in 2018 on the roster whatsoever. Sánchez held down the starting position with Joaquín Díaz Bonilla being his primary back-up. Díaz Bonilla remains uncapped.

For Los Pumas Jaguars centers Santiago González Iglesias and Bautista Ezcurra are potential cover for fly half. Both have the means to move with the same applying to Emiliano Bofelli and Juan Cruz Mallía. None are specialists which means an Argentina XV fly half will be certain to join the roster.

The lack of capped players at fly half will not change. Los Jaguares will not have a player back from Europe in the form of Patricio Fernández or Benjamín Urdapilleta. The possibility of Sebastián Poet returning from the Pro D2 has been raised however.

In contrast to fly half Los Jaguares have depth across the remaining positions. There is cover waiting within the domestic game. Those in Europe who are RWC possibilities also happen to be under contracts beyond the start of the 2019 Super Rugby season.

There is, nonetheless, one notable name who could be recruited – Manuel Carizza. The veteran of RWC 2011 is currently playing for Lyon as a medical joker. His inclusion would be excellent for Los Jaguares with a proven player and leader adding to the second-row options.

With Matías Alemanno, Tomás Lavanini, and Guido Petti all heavily used for both Los Jaguares and Los Pumas Carizza would offer tremendous player management opportunities. Yet it goes beyond this as he is very much a player with a realistic shot at being selected for RWC 2019.
