Austin set to sign Teros prop Echeverría

Austin Elite are set to announce the signing of a second Uruguayan international for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. Tighthead prop Juan Echeverría will join Teros teammate Andrés Vilaseca in Texas as the new American professional competition opens its doors to a number of South Americans players.

Echeverría has won 42 caps since making his Teros debut in 2014. The 26-year-old has been the primary understudy to the established Mario Sagario but has made more test appearances since the 2015 World Cup with Sagario winding down his international career. Echeverría is short for a tighthead and is known for being an awkward and effective scrummager.

Paddy Ryan and Mason Pedersen were Austin’s tightheads in the 2018 season. It’s unclear what Echeverría’s signing means for the incumbents. Pedersen is also capable of playing loosehead and is currently in Canada with Vancouver Rowing Club in the CDI Premier League.
