Andrew Ferguson is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn bicep. The Canadian scrumhalf will undergo surgery today and is expected to miss the next 3-5 months. That rules him out of the Americas Pacific Challenge and the World Cup Repechage competition. Gordon McRorie will now act as cover for Phil Mack in Montevideo with 18-year-old flyhalf Brock Webster called up for the APC.
The news is also a blow for the Ontario Arrows, who will be without Ferguson for most if not all of their Major League Rugby preseason matches. Alex Gliksten is expected to return from England on loan from Saracens though not until closer to the regular season. If Ferguson’s recovery goes well he could be fit for the start of the Americas Rugby Championship.
Webster is a bolter who has impressed in training with Canada’s centralized program recently. The Oshawa Vikings product started for the Canada u18 side earlier this year on their tour to Hong Kong. He then spent several weeks this summer playing for New Brighton Colts in Christchurch, New Zealand.
