Raúl Pérez Becomes Head Coach of Paraguay

The first coach of Los Jaguares is continuing his coaching career in a different manner altogether. Raúl Pérez has become Head Coach of Paraguay. He takes up his new coaching position at a time in which professional rugby is set to be born in the country.

Plans are for Paraguay to be a part of the new Liga-Sul Americana. The competition has been slated to begin in 2020 with franchises being from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Mexico and Peru have been listed as additional possibilities.

The wide-sweeping progress that rugby is experiencing in the Americas saw the arrival of the Sudamericano 6 Naciones A earlier this year. Paraguay had matches against the Argentina XVColombia, and Chile.

Raúl Pérez takes up the role as Paraguay Head Coach after previously coaching Los Jaguares in Super Rugby. Pérez was in charge of the team in 2016 and 2017, standing down after two disappointing campaigns.

He also takes with him plenty of playing experience. From 1992-1999 Pérez was a Puma, playing 21 test matches. His appointment means Argentine men are the Head Coaches of Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
