The USA have defeated Russia in convincing fashion to book their place in the Semi Final of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. Two tries from Naya Tapper led the way as the Women’s Eagles proved too powerful for their opponents. They will now face tournament favorites New Zealand in the Semi Final on Saturday.
On the other hand Canada’s run in the Championship draw has come to a close. In what was the match of the tournament so far, the North Americans went blow-for-blow with France. The scores were level at 19-all when Caroline Drouin went over in stoppage time to clinch the win for Les Bleus.
In another exciting contest Brazil were edged by Japan in their Challenge Quarter Final. Tries from Bianca Silva and Isadora Cerullo gave the Yaras a precarious lead but Yume Hirano’s second try of the game gave the win to Japan.
Mexico were again held scoreless, this time by England. They will have a chance to break their tournament goose-egg against South Africa on Saturday, with Brazil facing Papua New Guinea in the other 13th Place Semi Final. Canada have drawn Spain for their 5th Place Semi.
