Uruguay Roster Confirmed for 2018 RWC 7’s

Uruguay’s 12-man roster has been confirmed for the upcoming 2018 RWC 7’s. In two weeks time Los Teros 7’s will join 23 other teams in competing for Gold in San Francisco, California.

The roster that will play at the 2018 RWC 7’s this month includes Gastón Mieres and Nicolás Freitas. Mieres played for Uruguay at Rugby World Cup 2015 in England and Wales, starting all four matches at fullback.

Despite being aged just 28, Mieres is a true veteran with 62 test caps to his name. Freitas turned 25 this month and will play in his first RWC. Having missed out on playing for Los Teros in England and Wales 2015 he is well placed to feature in Japan 2019. He has 26 caps thus far and was a Super Rugby Jaguar in 2017.

A new format will be used by World Rugby for the 2018 RWC 7’s. Changes mean that all matches are to now be straight knock-outs. Uruguay begin by playing against Japan. The winner will advance to the Round-of-16 to face Fiji. The loser will be eliminated.
