Cat Undergoes Surgery

Juan Manuel Cat has undergone surgery. The 22-year-old Uruguayan mid-fielder suffered a ruptured pectoral tendon and is now recovering following his operation.

A recovery period of 4 months is likely for such an operation. This means Cat should be free to be considered to take part in Uruguay’s tour of Europe in November. Involvement in the Americas Pacific Challenge in October is also a possibility.

With 20 caps to his name Cat has been among the big success stories to have been found by Uruguay since RWC 2015. Cat made his debut for Los Teros from the bench against Spain in 2016 and has since gone on to hold down a starting place in the team.

He played in both the 2017 and 2018 Americas Rugby Championship tournaments. Injury saw him miss out on playing in the recent Nations Cup which saw Andrés Vilaseca and Joaquín Prada feature as the mid-field combination.

Cat was a stand-out for Uruguay in not only this year’s Americas Rugby Championship but also in both of the RWC qualifiers against Canada. He scored a try in the home win in Montevideo against the North Americans.
