U20 Championship Preview – Argentina vs Wales

World Rugby’s U20 Championship continues on Tuesday. Competing for the fourth time in the tournament will be Argentina. Having finished 7th overall in the seedings from the pools Los Pumitas are to take-on Wales in a 5th Place Semi Final.

The winner of Argentina vs Wales will advance to face the winner of Italy vs Australia in the 5th Place Final. Their match will be played at the same time.

Los Pumitas are a changed side from that which fell to Italy on Thursday. In the backs Pablo Avellaneda, Agustín Segura, Joaquín de la Vega Mendía, and Manuel Nogues all come in to start. They replace Leopoldo Herrera, Santiago Chocobares, Juan Daireaux, and Gonzalo García respectively.

In the forwards there are returnings starts for Santiago Ruiz, Juan Ignacio Molina, Ignacio Gandini, and Lucio Sordoni. They take the spots of Bautista Pedemonte, Santiago Grondona, Salvador Ochoa, and Mayco Vivas.

Notably named of the Los Pumitas bench is Gonzalo Hughes. From Trelew in Patagonia he comes from the Welsh-settled area of Argentina.

Wales have gone for nine changes to their side to face Argentina. Of the team that started against Japan there are two positional changes. Cai Evans moves from fullback to fly half while Dewi Cross do so from wing to fullback.

Additional alterations see Dane Blacker starting at scrum-half, Rhys Carre at loosehead prop, and Iestyn Harris at hooker. Tommy Refill remains captain and will lead the side from flanker opposed Joaquín de la Vega.
