New Zealand claim Paris title, Canada take Bronze

New Zealand proved the top team at the Paris 7s with a dominant 33-7 win over Australia, but it wasn’t enough to claim the ultimate prize. Despite winning the last three stops on the circuit, a disappointing performance in Dubai to start the season cost them the 2017-18 Women’s Sevens Series title with Australia taking the crown by a mere two points.

Canada made the most of their consolation route by defeating hosts France by 17-10 in their final match of the season. Ghislaine Landry, Charity Williams, and Bianca Farella each touched down in the win, as the Canadians finish their season in 4th overall.

The USA weren’t far behind in 5th place, both in Paris and on the season. They had little trouble with Fiji in their only match on Day Three, taking a 28-7 win with tries coming from Kristen Thomas, Naya Tapper, Lauren Doyle, and Ilona Maher.

While the 2017-18 HSBC season has come to a close, the teams won’t be able to kick their feet up just yet. The Rugby World Cup Sevens kicks off on July 20 in San Francisco.
