Both Scotland and Wales have today confirmed that they will be without experienced players ahead of their June tours to the Americas. Scotland will undertake an all-Americas tour facing each of Canada, USA, and Argentina while Wales will begin with a neutral-venue clash against South Africa in Washington DC before a two-match series against the Pumas.
Scotland will now be without both of the Gray brothers after Richie Gray pulled out with a hip injury. The towering second row will not be replaced as the Scots already have four players capable of covering lock in Glasgow’s Tim Swinson and Edinburgh trio Grant Gilchrist, Ben Toolis, and Lewis Carmichael.
Wales had already been forced to withdraw Tomas Francis, Luke Charteris, and Josh Adams due to English Premiership regulations and will now miss out on flanker Aaron Shingler and uncapped winger Ashton Hewitt. Shingler injured his knee in the first half of the Pro 14 final in Dublin on Saturday while Hewitt damaged a shoulder in training on Thursday. Cardiff Blues utility forward Josh Turnbull, last capped in 2016, has been called up while an outside back will be added in the coming days.
