The Argentina XV will resume training in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. Following their shocking defeat to Brazil this past weekend a much changed roster has been named to take on the Uruguay XV. Among those called-up are Pumas Manuel Montero and Matías Moroni.
Serious injuries to Manuel Montero have prevented the Pucará flier from competing at the elite level with regularity. Having missed RWC 2015 through injury he was then forced out for a year in 2016. He opted to walk away from his Jaguares contract to return to club duty and is now ready to return for the Argentina XV.
Matías Moroni is fit-again after undergoing shoulder surgery. The CUBA mid-fielder has not played all year with his last appearance being against Ireland in November. In his absence Matías Orlando has played every minute of every match for Los Jaguares in this year’s Super Rugby competition.
Head Coach Felipe Contepomi has added fourteen played in all. Additional players of note included are Rodrigo Bruni, Felipe Ezcurra, Ignacio Larrague, Santiago Montagner, and Lucas Mensa. The boosted roster and humiliation from last Saturday promises to give the Uruguay XV a very challenging match.
Sunday’s match at Club Newman is to be a consolation fixture for both the Argentina XV and the Uruguay XV. With Brazil beating the Argentina XV and the Uruguay XV falling to Chile Os Tupis are now set to make history. A win over Colombia in São Paulo will see Brazil crowned Sudamericano 6 Naciones A champions.
