Huete in Chile squad to face Brazil

Chile have named their strongest squad of the year for their opening round match of the Sudamericano 6 Naciones ‘A’ against Brazil on Saturday. Four overseas professionals are named including Bayonne second row Pablo Huete who returns after an 11-month absence. Barcelona centre Francisco de la Fuente and two Portugal-based forwards in prop Lucas Bordigoni and back row Anton Petrowitsch are also named.

Four uncapped players are present in the 24-man squad. Dynamic loosehead prop Oliver Thompson will make his test debut after being on the fringes for several seasons while current national u20 hooker Salvador Lues is called up to the senior Cóndores side. Vicente Ayarza, brother of injured Bayonne prop Ramón Ayarza, is named as a midfielder with fellow sevens standout Lucas Westcott an option at flyhalf or the outside backs.

With no full-time No10 named the front-runners appear to be Lucca Avelli and Rodrigo Fernández. Both have played the position before but have been used at outside centre and fullback respectively in previous test appearances. Lues, Fernández, Westcott, flanker Ignacio Silva, and outside back Pedro Verschae join the group after being left out of the original training squad.

Saturday’s match will take place at the Estádio do Canindé in São Paulo.
