Uruguay Secure Ulster November Date

Uruguay have secured a match against Ulster as part of the 2018 November Internationals. Los Teros will play away against the Irish province in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Friday November 09.

The match will take place at Kingspan Stadium, the home of Ulster rugby. Kick-off for the fixture has been scheduled for 7:30pm local time which will be 4:30pm in Uruguay.

Ulster are one of four professional Irish teams in the Pro 14 Championship. They won the competition in 2006 while back in 1999 they were European Champions, winning the Heineken Cup (Champions Cup).

The history of Ulster places the team among Europe’s elite. For Uruguay it is going to be an opportunity to test themselves in their final tour prior to RWC 2019 in Japan.

Currently ranked third in the Americas Rankings and 18th in the world, Uruguay are to be Ulster’s first international opponent in a decade. The last time Ulster played against a test side was in 2008 against Portugal.

Uruguay’s remaining November Internationals are yet to be confirmed. Los Teros are expected to play two test matches in Europe that month. The likelihood of securing a match against a Tier 1 side is all but nil, making Ulster potentially Uruguay’s toughest challenge.

With Australia, Fiji, Georgia and Wales being Uruguay’s pool opposition in RWC 2019 the match against Ulster will be prepared for accordingly.

Uruguay are expected to select their legion of players based in Europe for the November Internationals. They are to be joined by the 15 professional players currently based in Montevideo in addition to other home based talent.
