Canadian international Dan Moor was given a unique opportunity to start in an Aviva ‘A’ League match for Wasps on Monday afternoon. Currently studying at Oxford University, the 27-year-old was included as a guest player by the Premiership club against Northampton Wanderers at Franklin’s Gardens.
The high-scoring affair saw more than 100 points shared between the two sides with the more experienced home side grabbing the lion’s share and coming out on top by a score of 75-26. While Wasps were largely second-best, Moor acquitted himself well and scored two of his team’s four points to secure a losing bonus point.
It should be noted that this was not an official trial for the professional club. Invitational players are often included in ‘A’ League matches to supplement academy and fringe first team players.
In December the Balmy Beach and Ontario Blues product won a ‘blue’ for Oxford in the prestigious Varsity Match at Twickenham, the contest ultimately won by rivals Cambridge. Despite being committed to his studies Moor was part of the training squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay earlier this year though he did not make an appearance in the series.
