Canada names men’s team for Hong Kong and Commonwealth 7s

Damian McGrath has named 14 players in his Canadian team for the Hong Kong Sevens, Commonwealth Games, and Singapore Sevens, all to take place in April.

All 13 members of the side that finished 14th in Vancouver have been retained with the addition of dual-international Andrew Coe to the traveling group.

Also of note is a change in captaincy that sees John Moonlight restored to the role in place of Harry Jones, who has led the team in the first six stops on the 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series.

Canada will join Kenya, Australia, and Spain in Hong Kong. The three-day tournament begins on Friday, April 6 (Thursday, April 5 in North America).

The Commonwealth Games tournament takes place on the Gold Coast in Australia beginning on April 13th. Canada has been draw in Pool C along with New Zealand, Kenya, and Zambia.

Returning players from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – where Canada did not reach the medal rounds – are Connor Braid, Mike Fuailefau, John Moonlight, Lucas Hammond, Justin Douglas, Nathan Hirayama, and Harry Jones.

The Singapore Sevens takes place over two days beginning on April 28.
