USA Women’s Premier League Opens Up Season

The USA Women’s Premier League kicked off their 7th season of play this weekend with four matches across the county. The WPL is the top level of Women’s Rugby in the United States and boasts rosters filled with Eagles and Eagle Pool players. The competition covers six rounds of play and culminates in the WPL Championship that takes place November 13-15, 2015 at location yet to be determined. Each team plays a total of six matches with three home and three away.

The WPL is broken into two geographic conferences.

Blue Conference

The Blue Conference is led by the Glendale Raptors who are the reigning WPL Champions. They face still competition from the Berkeley All Blues, San Diego Surfers, and Oregon Sports Union. The All Blues won the 2012 WPL Championship and have traditionally been one of the top sides in the entire country.

Red Conference

The Twin Cities Amazons are the class of the Red Conference having been involved in each of the past three WPL Championships and won the title in 2013. The Amazons loss to Glendale in the 2014 WPL Final not only cost them the championship, but a second consecutive perfect WPL season. They are joined in the Red Conference by the Atlanta Harlequins, Washington DC Furies, and New York Rugby Club.
