Pablo Ferrari replaces Sebastián Piñeyrúa as Head of Uruguay Rugby – the Unión de Rugby del Uruguay (URU). It sees a second term for Ferrari after he was previously URU President from 2007-2009.
Sebastián Piñeyrúa’s time as URU President could not end better. As head of Uruguayan rugby he has overseen notable transformations and the arrival of Los Teros as an official Tier 2 rugby nation.
Uruguay have qualified for RWC 2019, doing so by making history against Canada. Los Teros are also enjoying success in general with a streak of wins and a growing list of opponents. The Piñeyrúa has been tremendous.
In his four years in charge of the URU, Piñeyrúa saw the drought end as Los Teros qualified for RWC 2015. Despite having seen the Americas 2 spot claimed for RWC 2019 he has decided to not continue which sees Ferrari now taking charge.
Ferrari takes the role not as an outsider. He has been the URU’s General Secretary and involved in the running of the URU during the Piñeyrúa years.
In addition to Ferrari the URU has also appointed additional new staff. They include Santiago Slinger as manager of Los Teros and Daniel Viñas as a board member.
The most notable appointment, though, is that of Annie Milburn. She has been appointed as the first ever women to the URU board.
