Italy call for Bacchin

Italy have called up Benetton Treviso centre Enrico Bacchin to replace clubmate Luca Morisi on their World Cup roster. Morisi injured a knee in Saturday’s warm-up test match against Wales.

Bacchin, 22, was a standout for both San Donà and Mogliano in the Italian domestic league before being selected for the Emerging Italy squad for the Tbilisi Cup in June of 2014, where he caught the eye of Azzurri head coach Jacques Brunel.

Ironically it was Morisi’s absence that allowed him to break into the Benetton side in the 2014/15 season. He made his test debut during this year’s Six Nations, starting against Scotland and appearing as a reserve against both France and Wales.
