Round three of the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) has come and gone. Match results from Saturday’s matches have been calculated to determine the updated Americas Rankings – February 18 2018.
The first fixture was that of the USA against Chile. With the USA having a much higher ranking than the Chileans the only way for the ranking of either to be impacted was for the USA to fail to win the match. With the Eagles running-out 45-13 winners neither side has had their points altered.
Notwithstanding in the World Rankings, Chile has risen one spot from 26th to 25th in the world. This is based on Brazil’s defeat against Canada. The 45-5 hammering in British Columbia sees Brazil dropping 0.55 rankings points. It means Chile is back to 5th in the Americas Rankings, one position above Brazil.
This weekend’s match in South America did not see rankings on the line. With Uruguay playing host to the Argentina XV it was strictly an ARC match but not a test match. In order for rankings to be on the line teams must field their test teams. In the case of Argentina this means Los Pumas. The Argentina XV is officially Argentina ‘A’.
The Americas Rankings will be updated again next Sunday. Round four fixtures in the ARC see the Argentina XV hosting Canada in Jujuy, Brazil at home to the USA in São José dos Campos and Chile having home advantage against Uruguay.
Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
