Los Teros busy preparing for World Cup qualifiers

The international season is over for 2017 but that doesn’t mean Uruguay’s top players are on vacation. Los Teros have been hard at work at the National High Performance Center at the Estadio Charrúa ahead of their historic Americas 2 World Cup Qualifying series against Canada.

It’s the first time the two sides will compete for the spot. Prior to their defeat to the USA earlier this year, Canada had never before failed to qualify as the Americas 1 representative.

Now in their third week of physical conditioning, Los Teros will finally get a break on the weekend, reconvening on January 3. National Physical Performance Manager Federico Izeta explained the timing on the official URU website.

“After this stage of physical conditioning, Los Teros will have some rest days as the post-season training is very demanding, so the body and mind need to recover. In January they will enter a more specific stage in which they will be looking to assemble the team, coordinate it, give it rhythm so that we arrive in the best possible condition for the matches against Canada.”

Two weeks of team training will conclude with a flight to Houston on January 17. There Los Teros will play the SaberCats of Major League Rugby on January 20. Two days later they fly to Vancouver to acclimatize and prepare for their most important match since the 2015 World Cup.

Los Teros will waste no time getting back to home base Following the match under the roof at BC Place on January 27. They board a flight back to Montevideo the next day to prepare for the series finale in Montevideo on February 3.
