Perry Baker has been named World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Award Winner. The USA Eagles speedster received the award this evening at the World Rugby Awards ceremony in Monaco.
Earlier in the year Baker was named by World Rugby in the 2017 Dream Team. He finished with 57 tries, six more than the next best on the circuit. Barrett’s naming in the Dream Team was on the back of his immense work rate. It included his all-around skills with accurate passing and his ability to win opposition ball at the lineout.
The 31-year-old from Florida remarkably only first played rugby in 2006. He took up the sport full-time in 2013 and joined the Tiger Rugby Academy in Columbus, Ohio, working under coach Paul Holmes. He is now officially the best Rugby Sevens player in the world.
