The Americas Rankings have been updated following the completion of international competition this weekend. The November 19 2017 rankings see improvements for Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Uruguay and the USA.
A return to winning ways for Argentina sees the South Americans overtaking Fiji in the World Rankings. The 31-15 win sees Los Pumas gaining maximum rankings points. It represents a 1.29+ gain and sees them improving from 76.93 to 78.22 points.
Brazil’s historic first ever win in Europe sees them now ahead of Belgium in the world rankings. The 23-19 victory sees Brazil rising to 55.81 from a previous ranking of 54.24 points.
Down in Madrid Canada’s 37-27 win over Spain sees the North Americans improving their rankings. Pre-match Canada had 59.47 points. Now they have a ranking of 61.13. The 1.67 point gain sees Canada overtaking Germany and Namibia in the world rankings. Canada rise to 21st in the world.
Canada’s win does not see the gap between 3rd and 4th in the Americas decreased. By virtue of winning 52-36 away to Namibia Los Teros have improved their ranking from 63.15 to 64.84 points. The 1.69 gain sees Uruguay rising above Russia to now be 18th in the world.
The USA were also winners on Saturday. Their 46-17 victory over Germany represents a 1.08 point gain. It is insufficient for any positional changes either in the Americas or World Rankings. The result sees the USA moving from 65.84 to a new ranking of 66.92 points.
Chile’s heavy 42-11 defeat to Russia sees Los Cóndores losing rankings points. Chile drop from 56.03 points to now be ranked on 55.74. With it Brazil move above Chile in the Americas Rankings. They are ranked 27th and 28th respectively in the world.
Further changes are possible next weekend. Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Uruguay and the USA are all to play again. They take on Ireland, Spain, Fiji, Germany, Namibia and Georgia respectively.
It should be noted that Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership today this past week. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
