Andrew Durutalo’s stay with Ealing Trailfinders in the Greene King IPA Championship has come to a close. The USA Eagles star has signed for Worcester Warriors of the Aviva Premiership who he will join effectively immediately. He will be the second USA international on the Warriors roster along with try-scoring hooker Joe Taufete’e and will get an early introduction to incoming Eagles Head Coach Gary Gold, who will remain Director of Rugby at Worcester until the end of the season.
It’s a move that comes as a surprise to few. The question was always going to be when and to whom rather than if. In six Championship matches for Ealing the 29-year-old scored four tries and picked up three man-of-the-match awards. His initial signing for Trailfinders raised eyebrows for those who have seen him play given his previous exploits both in Super Rugby with the Sunwolves and on the international stage both in test rugby and the HSBC Sevens Series.
There are now seven US Eagles on Premiership contracts. Durutalo and Taufete’e were preceded by Chris Wyles and Titi Lamositele at Saracens, and AJ MacGinty at Sale. Chris Baumann joined Leicester Tigers earlier this season and Nick Civetta is at Newcastle Falcons though currently on loan to Championship club Doncaster to get more game time. An eighth player, Paddy Ryan, has been on trial at Bath but has yet to sign a formal contract.
