Argentina, Chile Feature in Oktoberfest 7’s Day One

Argentina and Chile were both involved in Day one of the Oktoberfest 7’s. The two day tournament is a special event being held in Munich, Germany. The two South American countries had satisfactory opening day performances.

Argentina had matches against Germany, Uganda and England. Los Pumas 7’s began well, overcoming the home nation by a scoreline of 21-13. It was followed up by an impressive 31-14 downing of the Africans. In the end Argentina went 2-1 for the day. The final match saw England winning a nail-bitter 12-10.

While Argentina entered targeting a path to the title, Chile had different goals. Los Cóndores 7’s were pooled with Australia, Fiji and Ireland. It was a n extremely challenging assignment but the Chileans managed to play some very good rugby. No wins were recorded though as the three higher fancied opposition teams were too strong.

Day One in Munich was one that did not follow the script. Germany recovered from their opening loss against Argentina to defeat England 21-14 in their second match. Also falling in their second appearance was Fiji. The Olympic Gold Medalists were shocked 28-14 by Australia.

Australia’s win over Fiji sees the Flying Fijians set to face Argentina in the Quarter Finals. Australia will take-on France in their Quarter Final. The remaining two see South Africa facing Ireland and Germany having a second opportunity to beat England.
