Dragons sign Palamo on loan deal

Thretton Palamo has joined the Dragons on a short-term loan deal from Bristol. The US Eagles midfielder will parachute straight into the match day squad for Friday’s Guinness Pro 14 contest against Ulster in Belfast. No specific length of the loan has been defined but with Palamo in the last year of his Bristol contract it’s speculated the deal could become a longer-term move should he impress the Dragons coaching staff.

Regardless it’s a relatively minor disruption for Palamo. The Dragons are based in Newport, just 30 miles from Bristol on the other side of the Severn Bridge. Just days short of his 29th birthday, Palamo will welcome the opportunity to play in a top tier competition again having spent the last two weeks in the Aviva ‘A’ League with Bristol United. He has yet to make an appearance for Bristol’s first team in the Greene King IPA Championship this season.

Dragons head coach Bernard Jackman is pleased with his new addition:

“He is a really good athlete, powerful and strong, and has been surrounded by good environments since when he was with Saracens as well as during his time at the American sevens program for the Olympics. I know him from when he was with Saracens and he’ll be a good addition to the squad, I look forward to seeing him play.”
