Round two of the South American C Championship saw further movement in the Americas Rankings. The updated rankings to close out August of 2017 see Costa Rica and Guatemala rising, doing so at the expense of Nicaragua and Panama.
The second ever test match involving Nicaragua was against Costa Rica. Los Ticos notched up a 58-7 win to add to their 91-5 victory over Panama on Sunday. The result improves Costa Rica from 31.69 to 32.30 points. With it Costa Rica are now ranked 22nd.
Nicaragua’s loss translates into a drop from 28.75 to 28.14 points. There is no positional change for Los Tiburones. As such Nicaragua remains ahead of Curaçao and El Salvador in the Americas Rankings.
The reigning two-time champions, Guatemala also followed up with a second victory. Los Jaguares’ 65-5 win over Panama means Guatemala gains the maximum points. The updated rankings see Guatemala rising from 32.93 to 33.89 points. This represents a jump of two positions above both Turks & Caicos Islands and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Panama’s updated rankings sees a fall from 29.30 to 28.34 points. A victory in the final round on Saturday would see Panama rising. On the flip side should Panama be victorious in the Bronze Final then they would improve their ranking.
The South American C Championship Final will be on Saturday. Costa Rica have home advantage against Guatemala. The winner is guaranteed to rise in the Americas Rankings.
