Maple Leafs picked for World Club 7s

Liam Middleton has selected his Maple Leafs squad to travel to Limerick for the World Club 7 at Thomond Park this coming weekend. Typically a development side, the group features a number of senior sevens circuit veterans, including leading try scorer Sean Duke.

Matt Mullins and Phil Berna have been included after impressing as key members of the 3rd place Upright Rugby Rogues at the Serevi RugbyTown 7s this past weekend. They are joined by Berna’s national u20 teammates Luke Bradley and Andrew Coe.

The Maple Leafs will face off against hosts Munster, San Francisco, and invitational side Samurai in pool play on Day 1. Last year’s Canadian entry finished in second place at the tournament, under the name ‘Vancouver Bears’. Admir Cejvanovic, Justin Douglas, Lucas Hammond, Mike Fuailefau, Pat Kay, and Sean White were all part of that side.

With a number of sevens regulars set to take part in the World Cup, Middleton will be looking to add depth to his player pool ahead of an expanded circuit that includes a first-ever stop in Vancouver and of course concludes with a repechage tournament to determine the final spot in next year’s Olympic Games. The series officially kicks off in Dubai on December 4.
