The USA Eagles have sealed November Internationals in Tbilisi and Frankfurt. Confirmation made from USA Rugby officially lists the two cities as the venues for the Eagles’ away test matches in Europe this coming November.
The Eagles are currently well settled. The USA powered home to win the second test match in style against Canada. In doing so the USA qualified for Rugby World Cup 2019 as Americas 1. The rout has Canada now scheduled to face Uruguay home-and-away in early 2018.
Also in June, the Eagles faced Georgia and Ireland. The North Americans were unable to win either fixture but they did mount an impressive second half comeback against the Lelos in Atlanta.
Next up is the two away matches against Georgia and Germany. USA Rugby notes that while venues are currently being confirmed, Frankfurt and Tbilisi will be the host cities for the November 18 and November 25 tests, respectively.
November 18 will be historic. It will mark the first ever test match between the USA and Germany. The Central Europeans are presently maving waves in Europe. Earlier this year they completed an upset win over Rugby World Cup regulars, Romania. The Germans also defeated Uruguay last November and are an outside chance at qualifying for Japan 2019.
One week after playing in Frankfurt the Eagles are to take to the field in Tbilisi. It is a tough assignment. Georgia are now ranked 12th in the world and have a dangerous side, one which was undefeated in the Pacific Islands in June 2016 and in North America in June 2017. Furthermore, Argentina’s scrum was dominated by Georgia’s last month.
The Eagles and Lelos have previously played twice in Georgia. The split 1-1 results included Todd Clever leading the North Americans to a win in Rustavi in 2013.
A third match for November is expected. The Eagles are likely to play on Saturday November 11 either at home or in Europe. Last November the Eagles played against Tonga in Spain and also had a home match against the Maori All Blacks in Chicago.
Also confirmed by USA Rugby is that the national ‘A’ side, the USA Selects will play three matches in Uruguay in October. It is to be the second year of the Americas Pacific Challenge. Match dates are scheduled for October 7, 11, and 15. The match schedule is yet to be released.
