What Next for Uruguay?

Fresh off their Nations Cup success Los Teros have extended their winning streak to 9 matches. Wins included are from matches in the Americas Rugby Championship, South American Rugby Championship. What then is next for Uruguay?

First up Uruguay is to have home advantage against the Argentina XV. The one-off match is to be the delayed fixture in this year’s Sudamérica Rugby Cup. The Argentina XV faced Chile earlier this month and is to face Uruguay in either September or October.

Chile has already played Uruguay too meaning the Sudamérica Rugby Cup fixture will be the final of the 2017 tournament. The Uruguay vs Argentina XV fixture may be part of the Americas Pacific Challenge. The second edition of the competition will be in Montevideo in October, likely with the Uruguay XV.

The Uruguay XV is to also play five matches in Argentina. These fixtures are to be part of the Torneo Argentino de Uniones, Argentina’s National Provincial Championship. The competition will be played in November.

Also in November Uruguay will play test rugby. Los Teros are to embark into unknown waters, traveling to Namibia to play two test matches. The series is reward to Uruguay for having reached Rugby World Cup 2015 and having demonstrated progress on and off the field since.

The trip to Africa will serve as preparation for Rugby World Cup qualifiers. On January 27 and February 03 Uruguay will play against North America 2 in a home-and-away series. The second of these matches is to double for the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship.
