Colombia and Paraguay won again in the South American ‘B’ Junior Championship. Following-on from their opening round victories the two countries did even better today. The junior sides of both countries ran riot, hammering Peru and Venezuela respectively.
In the first of todays’s matched Paraguay overcame Venezuela, winning 64-14. It sent shockwaves to the other sides in the competition, a genuine benchmark had been set.
Yet Colombia played so well in the following match that Paraguay’s performance was dwarfed. Los Tucanes delivered an amazing performance to defeat Peru 99-0. It underlines the potential being unlocked in the country.
The results from today confirm that Peru and Venezuela will meet on Saturday in the Bronze Final. It will be played at 2pm local time.
The South American B Junior Championship Final will follow with kick-off scheduled for 4pm. Colombia and Paraguay will compete in the final. The winner of that match will earn a place in the 2018 South American A Junior Championship.
Both Colombia and Paraguay wil want the opportunity to play in the A division. One player proving to be exceptional for Paraguay is Facundo Berdejo. Backing-up from his hat-trick against Peru the scrum-half scored four tries today against Venezuela. Los Yakarés scored a total of 10 tries against the Peruvians.
Colombia’s 99 points included 17 tries. Los Tucanes powerful and skilled pack lay the foundation for the backs to score at will. José David Rojo and Daniel López Montoya both scored hat-tricks.
