Test match rugby this weekend saw changes in the Americas Rankings. Gains were made by Chile and Turks & Caicos Islands. Of the two the former made a slight gain while the later completed an impressive rise in rankings.
Chile’s home victory against Paraguay sees Los Cóndores gaining 0.26 points. This corresponds into an overall increase in rankings points from 54.56 to 54.82 points. It is insufficient for Chile to rise in position but does see them edging slightly closer to Canada and above Brazil.
Also winning at home was Uruguay. Los Teros hard-fought win over Brazil sees no change to the ranking of either country. This is based on Uruguay having an advantage of almost 10 full rankings points and also playing the match at home.
This weekend’s third international saw the Bahamas losing at home to the Turks & Caicos Islands. The 26-19 result sees the 20th placed Bahamas falling and the 21st placed Turks & Caicos Islands rising in the Americas Rankings. The Bahamas dropped from 33.76 points to now have 32.29. Turks & Caicos take the 1.47 points to now have a ranking of 33.53.
The updated positioning see the Bahamas now ranked 20th in the Americas and Turks & Caicos 18th. The Bahamas must now overcome the Dominican Republic to avoid falling further. That match will take place on June 03.
Test match rugby will take place again next weekend. The final round of play in the South American ‘A’ Championship will see Brazil and Uruguay at home to Paraguay and Chile respectively. In the Caribbean Trinidad & Tobago will host a derby against Barbados. A non-test match will also be played with Mexico at home to the USA South Panthers.
