Chile has named a 12-man roster for Kong Kong. Hot off a positive tournament at the Vancouver 7’s, Los Cóndores will compete in the world’s premier Rugby 7’s tournament seeking to again tear-up the script.
Head Coach Edmundo Olfos has selected 12 players who are to depart for Asia on April 01. The players will look to qualify for the main tournament by getting through Group F. Awaiting them in the group are to be Hong Kong, Namibia and Sri Lanka.
The roster for the tournament sees five changes from that which played in Las Vegas and Vancouver. Viña del Mar’s Bernardo Moltedo played in Las Vegas only to be injured and miss Vancouver. Both Nicolás Herreros and Joaquín Huici are both unavailable this time around. Benjamín de Vidts and Vicente Ayarza of Old Boys join them as missing out on playing in Hong Kong.
Returning are Martín Verschae and Francisco Neira, both of whom were involved in the Chilean side which secured qualification through its performances at the Punta del Este and Viña del Mar 7’s in January.
The remaining two places go to Rodrigo Fernández and Anton Petrowitsch, players to have defended Chile’s colors in the recent Americas Rugby Championship. Their inclusion is a significant boost to the team’s credentials. They will offer valuable support to captain Felipe Brangier.
