Brazil Wanting Their Own Jaguar

Brazil is wanting to join Uruguay in having their own Jaguar. Brazilian Rugby (CBRu) CEO Agustín Danza has confirmed that his union is wanting to replicate that of Nicolás Freitas, Uruguay’s back who signed to play Super Rugby for Los Jaguares earlier this week.

Freitas is the first non-Argentine player to be involved with Los Jaguares. The move is a win-win for all parties involved. It is to further boost relations in the region and potentially act to begin the creation of a South American Super Rugby franchise.

The UAR has been hinting at future teams. A second Argentine franchise may be established for the 2019 season. It is also hoped that a South American side could play in the 2021 Super Rugby competition. Players such as Freitas would be the nucleus of such a team.

Argentine rugby website, Rugby Fun contacted Danza about Brazil’s players being involved in potential plans. Danza commented that “we plan on continued expansion, without limits. It is not something that we discard at all in the short term (2018-2019)“.

We believe that we have the capabilities. As a matter of fact the side Americas Rugby News named our fullback, Daniel Sancery as the Rookie of the Year. He is a 21-ear-old that has demonstrated the potential that we know exists in our youth“.
