International rugby results from this past weekend have seen Uruguay rising in the World Rankings and Canada falling. Los Teros have moved up to 19th spot as a result of both Russia and Spain losing against lower ranked African opposition – Namibia and Kenya. Canada’s loss against Japan on Saturday sees the North Americans now placed as the bottom ranked Tier 2 rugby nation.
The Canadians are also now the lowest ranked participant in Pool D of this year’s World Cup. Rugby World Cup 2015 opponents Romania have risen above the Canadians to 17th with Canada, Uruguay and Spain rounding out the world’s top twenty nations at the present point in time.
Uruguay remains the lowest ranked Pool A competitor with the four others remarkably now all being in the Top 10. Fiji’s win over Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup sees the Islanders replacing Scotland with the Northern Europeans joining Italy outside of the Top 10. Sitting between Scotland in 11th and Italy in 15th are Japan, Tonga and Georgia. Depending on the results of upcoming Pacific Nations Cup matches Scotland could find itself falling further.
Argentina remains in 8th and continues to be the highest ranked country from the Americas as has been the case since the introduction of the World Rankings in 2003. Second in the Americas is the USA followed by Canada and Uruguay giving the Americas four of the Top 20 in the world. Rounding out the Top 5 of the Americas is Chile in 23rd.
