The Los Teros roster has been named for Punta del Este. The 12-man roster was selected by new Head Coach Francisco Bulanti. The 36-year-old played both rugby sevens and seniors for Uruguay. He earned 24 caps including two at Rugby World Cup 2015.
The Punta del Este 7’s will be played on January 6-7 in the Uruguayan beach resort town. It is to be the first of two circuits of the 2017 South American Sevens. The second will be in Viña del Mar, Chile from January 13-15.
Uruguay will compete in both events of the South American Sevens. Also involved will be Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the USA and Fiji. Uruguay will be competing for the right to play in the Las Vegas and Vancouver Sevens tournaments. Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay all have the change at qualifying for the two premier World Rugby events in the Americas. Also on the line is the right to compete at the biggest of them all, the Hong Kong Sevens.
Bulanti has named a young roster for Punta del Este. 2016 u20 players Santiago Civetta and Martín Fitipaldo have both been selected. Like the remaining players all are under consideration for selection for the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship.
