Americas Rankings – November 28 2016

Following the completion of international competition this weekend there have been changes to the Americas Rankings. The updated Americas Rankings – November 28 2016 shows final positions for Tier 1 and 2 sides.

Argentina’s away loss to England sees no change to the rankings. England entered the future with a 10 point world ranking superiority. The size of the gap meant England did not gain points and nor did Argentina lose any.

In the world rankings Argentina continued to trail Scotland and France slightly. What this means is that Argentina’s only path to avoid a Pool of Death in Japan 2019 is for one or both of these sides to have a poor 2017 Six Nations campaign.

Canada’s narrow defeat to Samoa sees the North Americans failing further behind their southern neighbors. Canada went into the weekend on 64.29 points. The two-point loss in Grenoble, France sees Canada falling to 63.95 points. In terms of the world rankings it sees Canada remain slightly above Russia in 18th.

Alos losing points is Uruguay. A third defeat in as many matches sees Los Teros outside of the world’s top 20. Saturday’s loss against Romania had no impact on Uruguay’s ranking though losses against Germany and Spain both did. Uruguay now needs a successful Americas Rugby Championship campaign to return to the Top 20.

Brazil’s heavy defeat at the hands of Germany also see no change to the ranking of either competitor. Germany went into the match ranked 24th in the world, some 12 spots higher than Brazil. The gulf in rankings points meant the Central Europeans gained no points from their impressive victory.

Although the year has come to an end for most it has not for all. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama will all play for the first time in 2016 next month. The teams who do well are to rise into the Top 20. Before that, though, this coming Thursday will see Brazil playing away to Portugal.
