Buenos Aires Wins 2016 Campeonato Argentino

Buenos Aires are the Argentine provincial champions. The team captained by Tomás de la Vega ran out 9-5 winners over Córdoba in the Campeonato Argentino Final on Saturday.

De la Vega lifted the Ángel Guastella Cup to complete national activities for the year. The former Pumas flanker was one of a host of big name players based in Argentina involved. Joining him were Lautaro Bavaro, Joaquín Díaz Bonilla and Bautista Ezcurra. All three are likely to feature in Super Rugby for Los Jaguares in 2017.

Córdoba also had players in consideration involved. Franco Cuaranta and Aníbal Panceyra Garrido both started. Former Italy scrumhalf Pablo Canavosio was on the bench. The 34-year-old played 38 tests for Italy, including two Rugby World Cups.

All of Buenos Aires’ points came from Joaquín Díaz Bonilla. The flyhalf kicked three penalties to outscore Córdoba by four points. The only try of the game was scored by Córdoba replacement Julián Smidt.
