Honduras to Compete in CONSUR C

Rugby is growing throughout the Americas with the sport now been officially played in all nineteen Spanish Speaking countries in the region. The sport is new to the Central American republic of Honduras but with neighboring countries El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua all working together with CONSUR there is great hope for development.

El Salvador won the 2014 CONSUR C competition. Hosted by Panama both Costa Rica and Guatemala also competed. The four countries are also CONSUR members and Honduras is on track to be joining them in the near future.

Last September Matthew Harper was elected union president and Richard Russell Pavon vice-president. Together they will seek to continue building bridges to see the country of 8.5 million added to sanctioned international competition.

At present there are four teams but Harper believes the sport can prosper. He told Honduran network TVC ”it is a relatively new sport for Honduras but it is a sport that has a lot of promise for us’. As we have an international union we are going to participate in CONSUR C, which is a championship for the Central American Countries”.
