New Blood in Uruguay Roster for November Internationals

New blood has been named in the Uruguay roster for the November Internationals. Los Teros will play a three-match tour of Europe. They will play against Germany, Spain and Romania. The team is to fly out of Montevideo on Sunday November 06.

For the tour Head Coach Esteban Meneses has selected 28 players. 25 of these athletes play their rugby in Uruguay. Of the three players selected from abroad two are based in France. Pro D2 players Agustín Ormaechea and Felipe Berchesi are set to play in the halves for Los Teros. The third is utility forward Franco Lamanna who plays for Pro Recco in Italy’s Serie A.

The will be captained by Mario Sagario. The formidable tighthead takes over from the injured Alejandro Nieto. Like Nieto, Sagario was a starting player at Rugby World Cup 2015. A crucial difference between them is that Sagario has years of experience abroad. He has previously played professionally in both France and Ireland.

Also named by Meneses are members of Uruguay’s u20 side from the Junior World Trophy. Five players have been selected. They are Santiago Arata, Juan Manuel Cat, Marcos Chamyan, Facundo Gattas, and Gonzalo Soto. The number may have been higher but second row Manuel Leindekar is unavailable.

One player of note not to make the tour is Matías Beer. The flanker has not been selected based on fitness. Meneses determined it was in his best interests to rest rather than play in November as Beer continues to recover from a serious knee injury.
