France Men’s Sevens Qualify for Rio de Janeiro 2016

The Les Bleus Rugby Sevens team will play at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after being crowned winners of the European Qualification series. France becomes the second qualifier from Europe in joining Great Britain (England) who finished in the Top Four of the 2014-2015 Sevens World Series.

France’s qualification sees Europe’s direct spot taken and a total of eight of the fourteen spots now having been filled. The eight confirmed participants to date are Fiji, New Zealand, South Africa and Great Britain (only England players will be considered) and hosts Brazil.

The remaining four positions will go t qualifiers from remaining series, three of which will follow Rugby World Cup 2015. Hong Kong will host the ARFU (Asia) qualifying series on November 07-08 while Auckland and Johannesburg will host the  FORU (Oceania) and CAR (Africa) the following weekend.

The final position will be determined by a global repechage tournament at a yet to be confirmed place and time.
