Will Magie joins Ealing Trailfinders

Denver Stampede star Will Magie has signed a short-term deal with Ealing Trailfinders of the Greene King IPA Championship. The former Junior All-American captain will start at flyhalf in the British & Irish Cup match against Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday. This will be his second stint with the club, having made one league appearance as a reserve against London Welsh in November 2013. Magie started all 12 matches for the PRO Rugby champions during the inaugural season, finishing third in scoring with 113 points, all from the boot. The nature of the contract should allow the 24-year-old to return for the start of the 2017 season.

Ealing Director of Rugby Ben Ward confirmed the signings in a statement:

“Some guys have been playing non-stop from the start of the season. We are able to freshen up the team with some of the guys who have been training hard and waiting for the chance to impress. With a few injuries we have been fortunate to bring in Sam Pailor on loan for a few weeks and Will Magie has re-joined for the short term.”

Magie joins Argentine international Ignacio Sáenz Lancuba at the club. US Eagles scrumhalf Tom Bliss played five games for Trailfinders during the 2015/16 season before himself moving to PRO Rugby with the San Diego Breakers. Bliss is currently registered with Championship rivals Richmond, where he is teammate with another Eagles cap and former Ealing player in midfielder Ronnie McLean.
