Australia Nick Phipps has received an official warning from SANZAAR. The replacement scrum-half shoved an Argentine medic to the ground in the second half of Saturday’s Rugby Championship match at Twickenham Stadium.
The incident occurred when play had officially stopped. Referee Mathieu Raynal had blown time off, enabling Argentine medical official Christian Barrea to come on to attend to a player.
Having run on Barrea was deliberately pushed over by Phipps. Barrea had, for an unknown reason, attempted to gather the ball. The Wallaby acted in response which resulted in mass confusion. Matías Moroni was the first to act, showing Phipps to the ground.
Phipps escaped punishment from SANZAAR, who issued him with a warning for contravening Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship. The Citing Commissioner deemed the warning appropriate upon review of the match footage.
