Isles top Try Scorer in Rio

American fans might not have got the medal they wanted, but they did get some excellent individual performances. Leading the way in the try-scoring department is Carlin Isles, who finished the tournament with six tries, one more than Kenya’s Billy Odhiambo and Fijian ace Josua Tuisova. USA teammate Danny Barrett also made the leaders list with four tries, as did Pumas centre Matías Moroni. Isles, Barrett, and Odhiambo all accomplished their totals in only five games as opposed to six, as both USA and Kenya failed to make the medal rounds.

Argentina captain Gastón Revol was third highest point scorer with 37, just six below top man Terry Bouhraoua of France and five short of runner-up Cecil Afrika of the Blitzbokke. Isles was good enough for fifth spot on tries alone, with gold-medal winning skipper Osea Kolinisau creeping in just ahead of the Eagles speedster.

The Americas did not place anyone on the official World Rugby Dream Team for the tournament. South African captain Kyle Brown, Great Britain workhorse James Davies, and Fiji’s talisman Semi Kunatani were selected in the forwards. Kolinisau was joined by countryman Tuisova, as well as Great Britain’s Dan Bibby and Lomano Lemeki of Japan in the backs.
