The Guyana Rugby Union and Ministry of Education collaborated together to host a GIR Workshop this week. The initiative was part of the Caribbean country celebrating its Golden Jubilee of Independence.

The Impact Beyond Workshop is the first of its kind for the sport of rugby in Guyana. It is to serve as an instrumental step in growing and developing rugby.

The purpose was to instruct Physical Educational teachers on how to implement rugby into their respective schools in preparation for exams in their final year.

GIR Program Coordinator Kwanieze John said “On day 1 of the workshop, 80% of the teachers were “told” that they need to attend the course and some expressed that they don’t like Rugby nor do they understand the game.”

”Fast forward to Day 3 —100% engagement! Teachers were playing, coaching rugby concepts & actively discussing how to implement a sustainable program at their schools!
