Eagles selected for Women’s Super Series

Head coach Pete Steinberg has named 26 players to represent the USA at the 2016 Women’s Super Series to be held in Salt Lake City and the Regional Athletic Complex from July 1-9. The tournament will include matches against France, Canada, and England. Included are seven uncapped players amidst a host of returnees from last year’s competition in Alberta, Canada.

Augusta prop Jamila Reinhardt and a pair of back rowers, Chicago’s Christiane Pheil and Life captain Nicole Strasko, are the new names in the forwards. Life West flyhalf Megan Foster and outside backs Saskia Morgan of Brown University and Naya Tapper of UNC are also new to the senior squad. The 7th is Central Washington’s Asinate Serevi, daughter of the legendary Waisale Serevi of Fijian 7s fame.

Among the returnees are four members of the 2014 World Cup squad. Front rowers Katy Augustyn and Hope Rogers are joined by halfback duo Deven Owsiany and Kimber Rozier. Midfielder Sylvia Braaten has been named as one of seven reserves in the extended squad.

The team has been selected based on form from the National All-Star Competition, which featured 53 players in direct opposition over five days from June 2-7 at University of Northern Colorado. This year’s Super Series will be crucial as preparations begin in earnest for the 2017 Women’s World Cup in Ireland.

All matches will be broadcast live on The Rugby Channel, free for all viewers.
