Romania blast Uruguay in Teros’ worst performance of the year

Los Teros were handed their biggest loss of the year this morning, going down 40-0 against Romania in Bucharest. In what was Los Teros’ worst performance of the year the South Americans were no match for the Eastern Europeans who won the postponed fixture with ease.

The match kicked-off on Monday afternoon but was abandoned due to severe thunder storms with Romania leading 18-0. It had been suspended in the 35th minute but rest for Los Teros did not enable a different outcome as Romania stormed home in a one-sided contest.

Romania ran in five tries, two of them going to hooker Otar Turashvili. Such was the performance of the Oaks forward pack that Uruguay had no answer and could do little more than defend. Also crossing was back-rower Dorin Lazar while winger Stephen Shennan and replacements Sabin Stratila each scored once.

Veteran inside center Florin Vlaicu converted two tries and added two penalties. Meanwhile Tudorel Bratu converted a try.

Next up for Uruguay is a fully capped international against Spain on Saturday. Back-to-back losses for the South Americans would harm the country’s World Ranking. Romania will also be playing on Saturday, doing so against the Argentina XV in a non-capped international.
